Ketcham_J.P._12Dear Students and Families,

I am happy to welcome you to Desert Meadows! The Desert Meadows faculty and staff are dedicated to working with you to ensure that all students on our campus can achieve their highest potential. Over the years, Desert Meadows has had a rich history of providing students with an amazing academic and social experience. This year, we will continue to build upon and refine our proven foundation of good work, honored traditions, and continued excellence in education.

I encourage each of you to be an active part of the Desert Meadows PTA. Through the years, this organization has accomplished many wonderful things that have enhanced the quality of our students’ education. Becoming a member of the PTA is a great way to get to know what is going on at your child’s school. You can become a member of the Desert Meadows PTA by clicking on the link https://desertmeadowspta.memberhub.com/store.

We are so excited to have all students returning for in-person learning this year! As the Coronavirus Pandemic continues to evolve, please see our website for up-to-date information: www.laveenschools.org.

Students and staff of Desert Meadows School stay on TRACK by being:

  • Trustworthy
  • Respectful
  • Accountable
  • Collaborative
  • Kind

If you have any questions or concerns during the year, please let us know. A key to having a successful school year is having open communication between parents/guardians and staff. It will help your child experience success at school if we are all headed in the same direction. We look forward to a great year!

Sincerely,

J.P. Ketcham, Principal

Why choose Desert Meadows?

LEARN

Desert Meadows School strives to help our students improve academically every year as well as to develop their social skills so that they can become productive members of the community.

To facilitate learning we focus on first developing fluent readers through systematic phonics instruction. As the students progress through the years, teachers follow a curriculum map ensuring the students are acquiring the higher level learning skills that will lead to their academic success. We use data to target areas that need interventions which are provided through daily interventions, tutoring, and sometimes Saturday school. Interventions do not stop in academic areas that are lacking, but  include students who are ready for more rigorous challenges. By seventh grade our goal is to teach students algebra and by eighth grade they will move on to geometry.

Our social goals focus on teaching expectations that will assist our students in all walks of life. Our Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program not only sets those expectations, but teaches the students what they look like.

Meet our exceptional students & teachers

Desert Meadows is one of Laveen's 8 great elementary schools. See what makes them outstanding.
