Read MoreDesert Meadows School strives to help our students improve academically every year as well as to develop their social skills so that they can become productive members of the community.
To facilitate learning we focus on first developing fluent readers through systematic phonics instruction. As the students progress through the years, teachers follow a curriculum map ensuring the students are acquiring the higher level learning skills that will lead to their academic success. We use data to target areas that need interventions which are provided through daily interventions, tutoring, and sometimes Saturday school. Interventions do not stop in academic areas that are lacking, but include students who are ready for more rigorous challenges. By seventh grade our goal is to teach students algebra and by eighth grade they will move on to geometry.
Our social goals focus on teaching expectations that will assist our students in all walks of life. Our Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program not only sets those expectations, but teaches the students what they look like.
