Laveen Child Nutrition Services will be serving free breakfast and lunch to children in the Laveen community at all nine Laveen schools through the Summer Meal program.

Children 18 years and younger may enjoy a nutritious breakfast and lunch in our school cafeterias. All kids’ meals are free. There are no income requirements and you do not need to register. Children do not need to be enrolled in a Laveen school to participate. The summer meal program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Summer meal service begins May 30, 2023. Meals will be served in the school cafeteria on select dates and times. Curbside meal pickup is no longer offered due to the expiration of federal waivers that permitted this practice. Adult meals are available for purchase; breakfast is $2.50 and lunch is $3.50.

Enrollment for all Laveen schools for the 2023-24 school year has begun. Visit our Registration page to enroll your child using our secure online parent portal or to access printable enrollment documents.

Parents/guardians will need to present the required documents listed below in person for verification prior to the start of school.

• Child’s original birth certificate
• Child’s immunization record
• Proof of Residence, such as utility receipt or lease agreement (refer to Arizona Residency Guidelines)
• Legal papers, if applicable for custody
• Withdrawal form and report card from previous school
• Photo identification for parent/guardian.

*Please note, Vista del Sur is an accelerated school and students must take an assessment prior to enrolling. Paseo Pointe is a dual language immersion (DLI) school. Students entering kindergarten – sixth grade must enroll in the DLI program (DLI will expand a grade level each year).

All school and district offices will operate on a summer schedule starting on May 22 and running through July 17.

All offices will be open Monday – Thursday from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. except on holidays. All offices will be closed on Fridays throughout the summer months.

Vulcan Materials has been a strong supporter of various educational initiatives in the Laveen Elementary School District for several years. Support has ranged from funding for wifi hotspots during the pandemic to sponsoring our Chief Science Officers Programs. This year we are especially proud of how Vulcan Materials has supported our STEM initiatives by hosting a field trip to one of their mines, attending our STEM CAFE, partnering with Rogers Ranch STEM Academy, and donating $20,000 to Desert Meadows enabling them to create a Coding Cafe. The Laveen School District aspires to develop strategic partners in order to prepare our students for the jobs of the future. Congratulations to Officer George Pizarro, Desert Meadows SRO, who was named LRE or Law Related Education Officer of the Year by the Arizona Foundation for Legal Services & Education. This award was instituted to recognize exceptional contributions of Arizona police and probation officers in furthering education and understanding of the role of the law in our democratic society. Officer Pizarro was nominated by Desert Meadows principal J.P. Ketcham.

120 Rogers Ranch and Desert Meadows students were invited to ASU’s Football Stadium for a STEM in Sports field trip. The American Council for Engineering Companies invited electrical, structural and civil engineers to give breakout presentations on how all of the systems in the stadium work. After 4 breakout sessions, students were invited to have lunch with the College of Engineering in order to discuss how to make engineering a career.

Join us for the inaugural district art show on Thursday, April 27 from 5:00 -7:00 p.m. at the Laveen Education Center, 5001 W. Dobbins.

Laveen’s Celebration of Art will feature student art from across all Laveen schools and grade levels. Stop by throughout the evening to see the amazing work our students have created.

Our Developmental Preschool hosts monthly events for families to join their preschoolers in various activities. Last month, the Arizona Science Center brought their Science on Wheels program to EFGA. Other events have included “Goldilocks” presented by the Great AZ Puppet Theater, a trip to the Phoenix Zoo, and a Foam Party. The last event will be a trip to Sea Life Aquarium.
