Desert Meadows School — Character Counts!

Desert Meadows is a constructive community school that strives to educate the whole child– developing the mind while building the character to succeed. Both academic and social skills are taught with high expectations for success.

To improve instruction Desert Meadows focuses on first developing fluent readers through systematic phonics instruction. As students progress through the years, teachers follow a curriculum map ensuring the students are learning the higher level learning skills that will lead to their academic success. Data is used to target areas that need interventions which are provided through daily interventions, tutoring, and sometimes Saturday school. Interventions do not stop in academic areas that are lacking, but include students who are ready for more rigorous challenges. Desert Meadows aims to teach students algebra by seventh grade so by eighth grade they will move on to geometry.

The character education program Character Counts! teaches ethical values through the Six Pillars of Character: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship.
